EngiQueers Canada chapters march in Pride Parades across the nation!
On Sunday, June 25th, Engineering schools across Ontario participated in the Toronto Pride Parade – as has been tradition for the last several years. The schools that participated all have active EngiQueers Canada chapters – meaning they all host events and services throughout the school year that cater to LGBTQ+ engineering students and their allies. This year, we had the following groups march in the Toronto Pride Parade: UofT Queer Sphere Ryerson EngOUT McMaster EngiQueers Waterloo EngiQueers Western EngiQueers Carleton University EngiQueering Club (CUEC) Most schools were joined by their Engineering Societies, and a plethora of other supportive marchers. ESSCO AGM 2017 @ The University of Waterloo
On June 1-4, the University of Waterloo hosted Engineering Student Societies’ Council of Ontario (ESSCO)‘s Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2017. This Ontario regional conference gathered the new council of VP Externals, introducing them to ESSCO, as well as partner organizations including CFES, PEO, and OSPE. Over 70 delegates met in Waterloo, Ontario for a weekend packed with workshops, keynotes, and panels. The theme of the weekend was “Ideas in Action”, with sessions focusing on taking an idea and turning it into tangible actions, as well as developing the necessary tools to… Read More

I’ve been doing research for the feasibility report on professional live translation at President’s Meeting. At this point, I have all the information I need, so I’ll begin actually writing the report in the next couple of days. I’ve also been talking quite a bit with both the BoD and the IEC organizing committee regarding the loan that we have extended to them. I’m still continuing in my role as an advisor the CEC 2016 committee. In my last update, I mentioned how I was reading old Plenary minutes in order to familiarize myself with CFES history that I wasn’t… Read More

My biggest two goals this year are creating a more sustainable way to translate all documents and setting the foundation for fostering a culture of bilingualism in CFES. To build a more sustainable way to provide timely translation, I have been working with Bryan (National Executive) and Mark (President) on creating a committee for doing translations. By summer meeting, a full recruitment plan was discussed with the board then formalized. Shortly after, forms were created to recruit members. We are currently receiving applications until the end of August and will process them on a first-come first-serve basis. The links to… Read More

Since the start of my CFES Term, my biggest focus has been on making sure all information on the website is accurate and up to date. The biggest change for the website is the Officer List section. All the CFES Officer Positions have been updated with a new picture and short biography, with a few exceptions. I have updated some old links on the website (CEC and CDE) while also making a list of other broken and out-dated sections that need to be fixed. Currently these changes have only taken place on the English version… Read More

Bryan Gingras: Since the beginning of my term as National Councillor, I’ve mostly been trying to absorb as much information on CFES as I possibly can, mostly by reading old reports and Plenary minutes. National Councillors are expected to be somewhat knowledgeable about CFES’s past, in order to better provide context for today’s discussions. Apart from this, I’ve also been providing some general support for the CFES Officer team, namely by providing a template for the new work plans, and by taking point with the organization of the Summer Teleconference. I have also been continuing in my role… Read More
