In September, I attended Engineers Canada’s Board Meeting in Ottawa. The major subjects related to CFES were Policy Governance, International Engineering Graduates, and CEAB.
- Policy Governance: Engineers Canada modified their structure and they are currently following the Policy Governance that looks like a company structure. We had a full day of formation to understand the structure and how it changes the way Engineers Canada, and more particularly the Board, works. What we need to remember is that the CEO – Currently Kim Allen – is responsible of achieving the goals described by Engineers Canada Board EXCEPT the two different Boards: CEAB (Accreditation Board) and CEQB (Qualification Board).
- International Engineering Graduates: The Secretary of the Immigration Minister presented statistics related to Engineers jobs in Canada. We need more engineers in regions and the immigration of engineering graduates is a way both the government and Engineers Canada are working on. Engineers Canada really wants to make sure they don’t “steal” Canadian engineering graduates jobs.
- CEAB: The president-elect was attending the meeting and we had a discussion about CEAB and how CFES can improve the process. He is opened to let CFES representative attend the accreditation decision meetings!
