Since Congress, I have mainly been transitioning with Mark Grady. I contacted all our official partners to introduce Mark as well as every organization we are currently working with.
I also continued to develop the relationship with potential partners. I had a meeting with Mark Abbott of Engineers Without Borders about CFES and the Engineering Change Lab. I also discussed with members of NSERC.
Congress 2015 had a deficit and I have been mediating solutions on how to solve this. I have been communicating with the University of Manitoba Engineering Society (UMES) and the CFES Board of Directors to make sure everyone agreed on what to do.
When I ran for President last year, the main focus I expressed were 1) getting our finances straight 2) improve our representation and 3) improve the bilingualism culture in the Federation. During the year, we also added inclusivity in engineering which the National Councillors took charge of.
1) Our VP Finance and Administration, Laura Perry, did a really good job at figuring out what to do with our finances and getting the audit done. We have been modifying some policies to improve transparency and be more aligned with the government requirements.
2) I improved our relationship with Engineers Canada and we will now be sharing more between the two organizations (ex: they are giving us access to their translation program which will greatly increase speed of translation) and have been connecting with Engineers without Borders a lot. Also, we now have contact at NSERC and will continue to increase communication and representation there. CEAB voting position also improved. Everyone agrees that it would be beneficial to have a CFES representative during the accreditation decisions but they need to make big changes in their reglementation and habbits to officially accept that.
3) We have been introducing a couple of ideas concerning bilingualism and have been implementing them since PM where the bilingual culture plan was introduced to the members. Like inclusivity, this topic will be a long term goal to ensure a change in mentality and not just momentaneous change.
Thank you everyone for this great year!
