From July 24th to August 3rd, 2018, I had the pleasure of attending the European BEST Engineering Competition (EBEC) Final in Turin, Italy. Throughout the conference, I worked closely with the organizing committee from the Local BEST Group (LBG), the co-organizer team and the International BEST Board. Having attended many competitions in Canada at both the regional and national levels, I was quick to notice many of the differences and similarities between our Canadian Engineering Competition (CEC) and EBEC. The first, and most obvious difference was the variety in competitions offered to the students. In Canada, our event is… Read More

International Women in Engineering Day (INWED)
As a woman who has recently finished her fourth year of engineering, it is obvious to me and many of my peers that I am not among the majority in engineering spaces. Women studying engineering is barely above the 20% mark, and the number of licenced female engineers in Canada is a mere 13%. Recognizing this, Engineers Canada has championed a 30 by 30 initiative which has the goal of raising the percentage of newly licensed engineers who are women to 30 percent by the year 2030, which the CFES supports. Despite the adversity, being a… Read More

Since the start of my CFES Term, my biggest focus has been on making sure all information on the website is accurate and up to date. The biggest change for the website is the Officer List section. All the CFES Officer Positions have been updated with a new picture and short biography, with a few exceptions. I have updated some old links on the website (CEC and CDE) while also making a list of other broken and out-dated sections that need to be fixed. Currently these changes have only taken place on the English version… Read More

Since Spring Meeting I’ve been focusing on writing 2-3 sample How To guides to assist Eng Soc leaders. From these I’m going to make a template for all the following How To guides and eventually get them posted on the website to help our members. Read More

Bryan Gingras: Since the beginning of my term as National Councillor, I’ve mostly been trying to absorb as much information on CFES as I possibly can, mostly by reading old reports and Plenary minutes. National Councillors are expected to be somewhat knowledgeable about CFES’s past, in order to better provide context for today’s discussions. Apart from this, I’ve also been providing some general support for the CFES Officer team, namely by providing a template for the new work plans, and by taking point with the organization of the Summer Teleconference. I have also been continuing in my role… Read More

Although my mandate started at the start of April, I was kept very busy upon being elected. For starters, the executive team had to work through the Commissioner applications. This included reading all of the applications themselves, interviewing each candidate, and making the decision on the final team. As well, I helped with the administrative side of Spring Meeting (registration and creating a pre-package, mostly). Since then, I have continued to be quite busy. I went to Chania, Greece from April 23rd to May 2nd for the Board of European Students of Technology General Assembly. I have made a… Read More

Hey Club members! The following is a brief update of the VPS activities since Congress 2014. At Congress I led a session on the evaluation of the NEM feasibility report I prepared earlier this year. It was decided that media campaigns were the most feasible as well as the most effective way for the CFES to celebrate Engineering across Canada. This year we started small with a short video featuring many of the CFES member schools singing dubbed versions of the famous Discovery Channel song ‘I Love the Whole World’. I have coordinated all the lyrics and have received almost… Read More

Since Congress, I have been up to a number of things. In addition to diligently collecting the mail, I participated in another teleconference with the Engineers Canada Qualifications Board EIT Committee, on which I am a student representative. We continued our work on the document being developed as a guide for EIT supervisors. Additionally, I began the electronic record of our bank statements, as it was decided at Congress that the NCL should aid the VPFA with bookkeeping. I plan to keep this up, and will be participating in my next EIT teleconference this spring! If you have any questions… Read More

Dear CFES,

The Board of European Students of Technology (BEST) would like to invite students of CFES universities to apply to attend a BEST course as an observer. As an observer you’ll have the opportunity to meet Engineering students from all over Europe, to learn about a technical topic, to learn how complementary education courses are organised in BEST, to get to know a European city and to have fun.

List of Summer Courses Descriptions – here you will find a list with the available courses for the upcoming Summer season (there’s 53 this season, so the list is quite huge!).
