I’ve been doing research for the feasibility report on professional live translation at President’s Meeting. At this point, I have all the information I need, so I’ll begin actually writing the report in the next couple of days. I’ve also been talking quite a bit with both the BoD and the IEC organizing committee regarding the loan that we have extended to them. I’m still continuing in my role as an advisor the CEC 2016 committee. In my last update, I mentioned how I was reading old Plenary minutes in order to familiarize myself with CFES history that I wasn’t… Read More

My biggest two goals this year are creating a more sustainable way to translate all documents and setting the foundation for fostering a culture of bilingualism in CFES. To build a more sustainable way to provide timely translation, I have been working with Bryan (National Executive) and Mark (President) on creating a committee for doing translations. By summer meeting, a full recruitment plan was discussed with the board then formalized. Shortly after, forms were created to recruit members. We are currently receiving applications until the end of August and will process them on a first-come first-serve basis. The links to… Read More

Since the start of my CFES Term, my biggest focus has been on making sure all information on the website is accurate and up to date. The biggest change for the website is the Officer List section. All the CFES Officer Positions have been updated with a new picture and short biography, with a few exceptions. I have updated some old links on the website (CEC and CDE) while also making a list of other broken and out-dated sections that need to be fixed. Currently these changes have only taken place on the English version… Read More

Since Spring Meeting I’ve been focusing on writing 2-3 sample How To guides to assist Eng Soc leaders. From these I’m going to make a template for all the following How To guides and eventually get them posted on the website to help our members. Read More

Bryan Gingras: Since the beginning of my term as National Councillor, I’ve mostly been trying to absorb as much information on CFES as I possibly can, mostly by reading old reports and Plenary minutes. National Councillors are expected to be somewhat knowledgeable about CFES’s past, in order to better provide context for today’s discussions. Apart from this, I’ve also been providing some general support for the CFES Officer team, namely by providing a template for the new work plans, and by taking point with the organization of the Summer Teleconference. I have also been continuing in my role… Read More

Although my mandate started at the start of April, I was kept very busy upon being elected. For starters, the executive team had to work through the Commissioner applications. This included reading all of the applications themselves, interviewing each candidate, and making the decision on the final team. As well, I helped with the administrative side of Spring Meeting (registration and creating a pre-package, mostly). Since then, I have continued to be quite busy. I went to Chania, Greece from April 23rd to May 2nd for the Board of European Students of Technology General Assembly. I have made a… Read More

Since Congress, I have mainly been transitioning with Mark Grady. I contacted all our official partners to introduce Mark as well as every organization we are currently working with. I also continued to develop the relationship with potential partners. I had a meeting with Mark Abbott of Engineers Without Borders about CFES and the Engineering Change Lab. I also discussed with members of NSERC. Congress 2015 had a deficit and I have been mediating solutions on how to solve this. I have been communicating with the University of Manitoba Engineering Society (UMES) and the CFES Board of Directors to make… Read More

Priorities for next year are as follows: – Consider merging French and English versions of website under one content management system to make maintaining multilingual content easier. – Switch to portfolio-based email accounts for incoming executive. – Assess the future of the “Hub” or an alternative member communications platform. – Discuss expanding the membership database with the content that was formerly part of the questions database. I have been transitioning sponsors to Kristina, finalizing payment with the hotel and closing the NCWIE 2014 bank account. I have not done much else as there has not been a 2016 bid accepted yet. Read More

Work Plan – SPRING 2015 – COMPLETE   Since my last update, I have continued to collect and sort all mail as necessary. Now that we have transitioned to online banking, the scanning-into-the-electronic-library-of-bank-statements is no longer necessary. All of my work for the financial audit has been completed. I have been actively tracking membership fees as they come in. The EngCan Qualifications Board Engineer-in-Training Committee is still active, and I participated in the committee’s teleconference since Congress, during which we revisited the Model Guide for EIT Supervisors (which has been an ongoing project of ours for a while now).
