BEST Summer Course, 2017: “Small things change the world” — Bratislava, Slovakia
Apply to BEST Summer Courses! Applications due March 28th. I’ll keep this short. My name is Josh Gage, and I am in second year Mechanical Engineering at the University of Victoria. Prior to attending this BEST course, I had been a couple places in Asia and Europe, but my time in Bratislava with the Local BEST Group (LBG) was unique and amazing. I, and about two dozen Europeans —from nearly as many countries— lived, studied and partied in the student dorms on the campus of the Slovak University of Technology, and in Bratislava city itself. We were hosted… Read More

Apply to BEST Summer Courses! Applications due March 28th. Hi everyone! My name is Matthew Taylor, and I’m in my third year studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan. Earlier this year from February 2nd-11th, I attended a BEST course called “Brewing & Distilling: The Wizard of –OH”. I’m here to share that experience with you! I chose the course because I’m really interested in distillation, it’s a major part of chemical engineering (a discipline which I love) because… Read More

BEST Summer Course 2017: Operation MadTech — Erlangen, Germany
Apply to BEST Summer Courses! Applications due March 28th. Hey! My name is Greg Coates and I am a 3rd year Mechanical Engineering student at MUN in St. John’s, Newfoundland. I attended a BEST course in June of 2017 in Erlangen, Germany on medical technology and it was one of the best experiences of my life! Streets of Nuremberg I chose this course because medical innovation is something that I was and still am very interested in, however I had essentially no experience or knowledge on the topic. I had… Read More

Conference on Diversity in Engineering 2017 – Hamilton, Ontario
The third annual Conference on Diversity in Engineering was hosted by McMaster University from November 10-12 in Hamilton, Ontario. The University of Waterloo delegation wrote about their experience on the weekend and is reproduced below. Our Responsibility as Future Engineers and Leaders My name is Andrew Dawson, and I’m a mechanical engineering student currently going into 3A. BEST Summer Course 2017: Architecture of a Festival — Cluj-Napoca, Romania
Apply to BEST Spring Courses! Applications due November 30th It all started off with a brief mentioning of BEST (Board of European Students in Technology) at our Engineering Societies Semi-Annual General Meeting. That was all I needed to get myself hooked on this idea of taking an educational course in Europe. Which by the way is taught entirely in English. I later found out that CFES and BEST are partner organizations, which gave me the marvelous opportunity to attend this course as participant. There is also the option to attend as a co-organizer where you can help run and… Read More

ESSCO Professional Engineering of Ontario Student Conference 2017
On the weekend of November 3rd, I had the privilege of attending the annual Professional Engineers Ontario Student Conference held by the Engineering Student Societies’ Council of Ontario (ESSCO). ESSCO is an association that represents engineering societies from 16 universities across Ontario, and acts as a link between engineering students and professional associations, academia, and government. In collaboration with Professional Engineers Ontario, the conference was designed to educate students about the services offered by PEO, and the benefits of obtaining a P. Eng License. The theme for this year’s conference was “Motivate. Innovate. Integrate.”, and I am happy to report… Read More

On August 14th to 25th, the 4th edition of the CFES Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification course was held in partnership with Canada Post! The event took place in École de Technologie Supérieure (ÉTS) Montréal, Québec. But what’s Lean 6 Sigma? It’s a process improvement program that combines two ideas: Lean: Reduction of time and wastes needed to provide a product/service Six Sigma: Improvement and standardization of the quality of a product/service By combining both, Lean6Sigma is a proven project & business management strategy that helps organizations operate more efficiently. What’s the use of the Green… Read More
