External Audit The majority of my time has been put towards the external audit that is happening with Deloitte I have been working with the Administrative Commissioner (Julia) on collecting all of the 2013-2014 bank statements. This required scanning the hard copies that Julia has been collecting in Ottawa since taking her on her current role in December 2013, and requesting the missing statements (prior to December 2013) from the bank. The auditing company, Deloitte, will be auditing all 12 CFES accounts. The majority of these accounts where not used in the 2013-2014 fiscal year, so the transactions only include… Read More

Congress planning is in turbo grind mode. The hotel is ready to have us and we will be their priority during our stay. My fellow organizers have been meeting weekly at a mininum. A few things in the schedule need to be sorted out but it’s mostly complete. Sponsorship money is in, we have a diverse array of companies and organizations participating. I do have one problem: I have too many volunteers and I don’t know what to do with them. Read More

There were three items for ICE: The Code of Conduct, the Inclusive Conference Planning document, and the Incident Reporting System Policy. Beth: The CFES Code of Conduct has been completed and a final draft (Version 5) submitted for approval by the Board at this meeting. There’s been some good discussion and I think there is a solid consensus. Beth: I had hoped to have the Inclusive Conference Planning document also available to be approved by the Board for formality’s sake; however, only one out of the six activity managers got back to me by the Oct 24 deadline (Dean, McGill… Read More

In September, I attended Engineers Canada’s Board Meeting in Ottawa. The major subjects related to CFES were Policy Governance, International Engineering Graduates, and CEAB. Policy Governance: Engineers Canada modified their structure and they are currently following the Policy Governance that looks like a company structure. We had a full day of formation to understand the structure and how it changes the way Engineers Canada, and more particularly the Board, works. What we need to remember is that the CEO – Currently Kim Allen – is responsible of achieving the goals described by Engineers Canada Board EXCEPT the two different Boards: CEAB… Read More

BEST and CFES have a long term relationship. We exchange best practices and learn a lot from each other. The goals of each organization, the structure and the events differs and we can learn from that. BEST PM is a lot bigger than our PM and they review each Committee and Event during Plenary. I was representing both CFES and IEC because they don’t see us as two different entities yet. I did a presentation about CFES and IEC, I had a table at the international NGO’s rally, participated in the international evening and discussed BEST and IEC with many… Read More

I have been attending BEST PM in Gdansk, Poland from November 6th to November 12th. I am also ensuring communication between IEC and BEST about deadlines, number of teams, application procedure and competitions. I have ordered pins and bandanas for Congress. Read More

Read More
