`Good day, lovely members of the CFES! I have for you an update on what the Engineers Canada’s Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Committee has been up to. As you may remember, I am your undergraduate engineering student representative on this committee, and I’d love to relay your thoughts and suggestions to the group (they want to hear what we have to say!). There have been two teleconferences since my last update, both of which have been focused on the development of a new project, entitled the Model Guide: Supervision of Engineers-In-Training. The document will address both the needs of Professional Engineer and… Read More

At CFES Congress 2013 the position of Vice President Services was created. The goals of this newly- minted position were: to unite programs, students and resources; to help new conference chairs with transition; to help aid in student societies’ awareness of programs we offer; and to help the CFES become more accessible to the Canadian students it serves. During plenary at Congress 2013, the incoming VP Services was mandated to create a feasibility report on the CFES hosting a National Engineering Month that was truly ‘national’ in scope. The idea was that instead of schools hosting independent events that the… Read More

Hello, CFES members!  I have officially completed my first teleconference with Engineers Canada, as your undergraduate engineering student representative on the Qualifications Board Engineer-In-Training (EIT) Committee. My job is to keep you updated, and ensure that we have a say on what we discuss. The EIT Committee was put together with a major goal in mind: to create mobility for EITs across Canada. In working towards this, the committee is taking steps to help EITs better achieve their training, by providing tools to help them comprehend the EIT program. All Canadian provinces and territories have associations that regulate the practice… Read More

After attending the Engineers Canada meeting in Yellowknife in June, CFES was able to work Engineers Canada to represent undergraduate engineering students on the Engineer-in-Training Committee. Our new National Capital Liaison Julia Dalphy will be representing CFES on this committee. The goal of the EIT group is to coordinate national discussion of issues related to EITs and engineering students, and to provide advice to the Canadian Engineering Qualifications Board about EIT and student issues. Their work includes creating national guidelines (like the National Guideline on Engineer-in-Training Program and the Guideline for Mentoring Programs), and they also coordinate an annual meeting… Read More
